Origins of PMB Homeless Network

A City and Street Community, safe, rehabilitated and restored. 

In 2019, it was made plain that the street community in Pietermaritzburg was in dire need of a sheltered space. At that stage, NPOs, church organisations and the like were all attempting to create this space while working in silos. 
This could not succeed. So early in 2020, a network was formed which met regularly to discuss the various options to create a sleeping safe space, or homeless shelter, or both, within the city. 
Covid lock down showed that it was possibly for a unified effort to create the space. The municipality did not want to work with many organisations, but rather with one unified body. 
Out of this necessity for a formalised, unified body, the PMB Homeless Network was registered in January 2023.
